GHE Playground Renovations

Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, the GHE PTA began fundraising for a multi-year renovation of the school's playgrounds, beginning with the 3-5 playground. These renovations aim to improve safety, usability and encourage active play for our students. For the 3-5 playground renovations, specific goals include:

• Address drainage issues that lead to muddy/wet conditions long after rain
• Address damaged and unsafe flooring tiles with new poured flooring
• Add modern play equipment that encourages active play
• Increase opportunities for preferred student activities such as soccer, cricket, basketball and four-square

Progress

Carried forward from prior years, at the start of the 2025-26 the GHE PTA has $60,000 in funds dedicated to the playground renovations. In the 2025-26 school year, the GHE PTA hopes to earn another $50,000 through fundraisers like the Fall Soar-a-thon, Spring Carnival and Corporate Sponsorships.

This project requires careful coordination with WCPSS and multiple contractors. Our current forecast estimates the following timeline, but is subject to change:

• Fall 2025: 3-5 drainage solution installed
• Fall 2025: Flooring assessment by WCPSS completed
• Winter 2026: New flooring installed
• Spring 2026: New equipment installed
